Add a task¶
What this is for¶
Break a case or work order into a dated to-do with an owner, so work is scheduled — not just a timer.
Concepts¶
Create Task is the dialog. Toolbar Task on the case (or on View Work Order) opens it. The case also has a Tasks tab. Company-wide Tasks (from Service Dashboard) lists every task; plus tooltip Add Task.
Required: Subject, Start Date, Due Date, Assigned To, Status, Priority. Optional: Description, Work Order, Bill Task ?.
Bill Task ? means completing the task can create a billable line. Completing then may open Bill Task: Select Item to Bill, then Complete.
A task is not a timer. Use a timer for hours; use a task for “do this by this date”.
Before you start¶
- Open a case. A work order is optional unless you want Work Order filled.
Steps¶
- Open the case. Click Task, or open the Tasks tab.
- In Create Task, enter Subject. Set Start Date and Due Date.
- Choose Assigned To, Status, and Priority. Optional: Work Order, Description, Bill Task ?.
- Click Save.
From View Work Order, Task opens the same dialog with that work order already selected.
From Tasks (company list): plus (Add Task) — same Create Task.
What happens next¶
Work the task. Complete it from the task row when it is done. If Bill Task ? was on, pick the catalog item in Bill Task.
Log time on a task if you also need hours. Update a case for notes and status of the ticket itself.
If something looks wrong¶
- Save will not go. Subject, dates, Assigned To, Status, and Priority are required.
- Work Order is empty. Create the work order first, or leave it blank.
