Log time on a task¶
What this is for¶
Record hours against a case or work order so you can bill or just know who spent time.
Concepts¶
Timers is the company-wide list. Create Timer is the dialog (Add Timer).
On a case, the Time Logs tab lists timers for that case. Same Create Timer idea.
A task is a dated to-do. A timer is the clock on that work: start (and later complete). Re Start Timer appears on a stopped row. Completing a timer is what makes the hours stick.
Billable time can later feed an invoice via billable items on a contract or Load Billable Item on an invoice — that is a follow-on, not this form.
Before you start¶
- A case exists. A work order helps if you dispatch by WO.
- You are the person (or you can pick the person) who did the work.
Steps¶
- Open the case → Time Logs, or open Timers.
- Click Add Timer.
- In Create Timer, enter Subject. Choose Assigned To and Client. Pick a work order if you have one. Description is optional. Save.
- When the work is done, complete the timer from that list (complete action on the row).
Use Re Start Timer only if you paused and need to continue — confirm the dialog.
What happens next¶
If the time is billable, Add billable items (or Load Billable Item on a draft invoice), then Create an invoice / generate from the contract.
If something looks wrong¶
- No case to hang time on. Open a case first.
- Hours never appear on an invoice. Completing the timer is not the same as billing — use billable items / Load Billable Item.
