Find a serial number¶
What this is for¶
Look up one serialized unit — which item it is and which warehouse holds it.
Concepts¶
Needs Inventory. Search Serial Number (title Search) is a lookup, not a receive screen.
Turn Use serial numbers on the item first (catalog Edit Item, or Product List → Edit an Item). Serials are assigned when you receive, count, manufacture, or edit that serial list. This job only finds what is already registered.
Before you start¶
- Inventory on. The item is serial-controlled and numbers exist.
Steps¶
- Open Search Serial Number.
- Type the number (a short prefix is enough to suggest matches).
- Open the match. Note item name and warehouse.
What happens next¶
If it is in the wrong warehouse, Move stock between warehouses (and keep serials with the move as the product requires).
To see every unused serial at once: See serial number stock.
If it should not exist, fix it on a count or the item’s serial list — not here.
If something looks wrong¶
- No hits. The number was never registered, it is already used on a shipment, or you are in the wrong company.
- This serial number is stocked in another warehouse. You tried to assign it where it does not live — move or pick the right location.
