Issue a credit¶
What this is for¶
Give the customer money back (or credit on account) against what you already billed — returns, pricing errors, or goodwill.
Concepts¶
Credits live on the customer. New Credit is like a reverse invoice: lines and amounts, then Save (draft) or Save & Publish.
A published credit can sit Available, then apply when you record a payment (credit balance is a payment method the product manages).
This is not Void on an invoice. Void cancels the whole invoice when the product still allows it. A credit keeps the invoice and reduces what they owe.
Vendor credits (Add Credit on a provider) are the buy-side twin — Issue a vendor credit. This job is customer credits.
Before you start¶
- The customer exists. You usually already have an invoice.
- A Billing POS exists.
Steps¶
- Open Clients → the customer → Credits (or Credits in the menu).
- Click the plus (Add Credit). You land on New Credit.
- Choose Billing POS and Date.
- Click Add Product. Enter Quantity, Product, Unit Price for what you are crediting.
- Click Save (draft) or Save & Publish.
What happens next¶
When you Record a payment, apply the credit toward open invoices.
If goods come back to stock: Return goods to the warehouse on the delivery, then credit the bill.
If something looks wrong¶
- You are not able to create credit because you have no any Billing POS. Same as invoices — add a POS.
- The credit does not reduce an invoice. Publish it, then apply it on New Payment (or leave it Available until you do).
- You needed to cancel the whole invoice. Void an invoice when Void is on View Invoice, not a credit.
