Set billing preferences

What this is for

Set how invoice numbers look, whether POS numbers print, currency format, and whether overdue invoices get late fees — without adding a new tax rule.

Concepts

Billing System → General Settings. Each row is Setting / Value / pencil.

Setting What it does
Tax lines Names of taxes (not the rates). Same as in Set tax rules and payment methods.
Invoice number length How many digits in the next invoice number.
Use Billing POS number yes / no. After signup this is no.
Billing POS number length / Show Billing POS Number on Invoice Only if Use Billing POS number is yes.
Charge late fees on overdue invoices yes shows the Late Fees tab. Then Set late fees.
Billing Currency From Sign Up. No pencil here.
Money Format Thousand separator / how money prints.

Configuration Tasks: Review billing preferences.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Click the gear. Open Billing System, stay on General Settings, or click Review billing preferences on Configuration Tasks.
  2. Pencil a row to change it. Confirm Update in that dialog (late fees: Update charge late fees on overdue invoices).
  3. To print POS on invoices: set Use Billing POS number to yes, then set Billing POS number length and Show Billing POS Number on Invoice.
  4. Tick Review billing preferences when the values match how you number and print.

What happens next

Create an invoice. New numbers follow Invoice number length and the POS.

To charge extras on overdue invoices: set Charge late fees on overdue invoices to yes, then Set late fees. Status Overdue and the overdue email do not need this switch.

If something looks wrong

  • No pencil on Billing Currency. Change currency is not this screen (it was set at signup).
  • POS length rows are missing. Use Billing POS number is still no.
