Turn a quote into a contract¶
What this is for¶
Turn an approved ongoing quote into a living contract that can invoice on a schedule.
Concepts¶
This is for a contract-like Type (not a one-time sale). The quote must be Approved.
Generate Contract opens Generate a New Contract. After it saves, the quote is Converted. The handshake icon then opens the contract.
You can also Create a contract without a quote.
A new contract starts as Draft. You still Activate it before it bills on its own.
Before you start¶
- The quote is Approved and Type is contract / subscription (not sale).
- Add a customer and catalog items exist.
Steps¶
- Open the quote.
- Click Generate Contract (handshake in the toolbar). The quote list has the same icon on matching rows.
- In Generate a New Contract, check name, dates, Billing frequency, and lines. Adjust if needed, then save as the dialog instructs.
- Open the contract. Click Activate and confirm Activate Contract.
What happens next¶
Active contracts raise invoices on their schedule (Invoices on the contract). Record a payment as those invoices come due.
To stop or change renewal later: Cancel or renew a contract.
If something looks wrong¶
- No Generate Contract. Type is a sale quote — use Turn a quote into an invoice. Or status is not Approved.
- The contract does not invoice. It is still Draft. Use Activate.
- The quote is locked. It is Converted — edit the contract.
