Create a work order¶
What this is for¶
Turn an open case into scheduled field or shop work with an owner and dates.
Concepts¶
A work order always belongs to a Case. If there are no open cases, the form says: There are no open cases at this time, please create a case first.
Work Orders is the list. Create a Work Order is the dialog: Company (the customer), Case, Assigned To, Title, Description, Start Date. Optional: Work Order Terms and Conditions (from a terms template).
You can also add a work order from the case itself when that action is on the case toolbar.
Before you start¶
- Open a case and leave it open.
Steps¶
- Open Work Orders.
- Click Add Work Order.
- In Create a Work Order, choose Company and Case. Set Assigned To, Title, Start Date. Description is optional. Optional: Work Order Terms and Conditions.
- Save as the dialog’s primary button.
From a case, use the work-order action on that page if you are already there — same fields.
What happens next¶
Add a task and Add items to a work order. Log time on a task. Complete the work order when the job is done (status on the work order).
If something looks wrong¶
- There are no open cases at this time. Open a case first.
- Case list is empty after you pick Company. That customer has no open case.
