Set up your company¶
What this is for¶
Make EpicBiz show your company: the name and addresses customers see, the look of the screens and PDFs, and the language and dates you work in. You already started this at Sign Up. This job is finishing it after you log in.
Concepts¶
Company Settings is the place for your account — not a customer or a vendor. Open it with the gear at the top right. The page title is Company Settings.
Configuration Tasks (on the Dashboard tab) is a checklist. Some rows tick themselves when the data exists (for example a billing point of sale). Others you tick yourself after you have reviewed that area.
Company Legal Name (from Sign Up) is who you are. The Company Name under Printing is what documents can print in the header. They can match; they do not have to.
An address is a place you operate from (office, billing location, warehouse). If the Inventory module is on, a warehouse is still an address — you pick the matching Address Type. Adding that warehouse is a separate job.
Branding is your Logo and Template Color. The color changes the chrome of the app; the logo appears in the product and on documents.
Before you start¶
- You finished Create your account and Activate your account (you can Log in).
- At Sign Up you already entered Company Legal Name, Main Address, and Tax Number.
- Use a user who can open Company Settings (the account owner always can).
Steps¶
- Click the gear at the top right. You land on Company Settings, Dashboard tab.
- If a red banner says you have to complete the Configuration Tasks, stay on this Dashboard. The list on the right is your map. This article covers addresses, branding, language, and how your name prints. Tax rules and points of sale are a later job.
- Click Review address information. Add as needed. You open Addresses. Check that the address from signup is complete (street, city, state, zip, phone).
- To add another location, click the plus (Add Address). In Add New address, fill Address Name, Address, Address Type, Phone Number, Country, State, City, and Zip Code. Click Add.
- Open General Setting (cog in the Company Settings toolbar). The Localization tab sets Templates, Accounts and Logging Language, Date Format, and Log Date Timezone. Use the pencil to change a row, then save in the dialog (Update).
- Open the Branding tab. Use the pencil on Logo (Update Branding Logo) and on Template Color (Update Branding Color). Choose a color, then Update.
- Open the Printing tab. Under Report Preferences, set Company Name (pencil opens Update Company Name) so invoices and other PDFs show the name you want. Adjust paper size and header/footer options if you need them.
- Return to Dashboard. Tick Review address information. Add as needed, Update Branding settings, and Review General Settings when those areas are done. (Those checkboxes are yours to mark.)
What happens next¶
Add the people who will work in the account: Invite people and set roles.
If you need more than the free plan, Change your plan and Turn a module on.
If you bill customers, you still need tax rules and a billing point of sale (Set tax rules and payment methods). Then Add a product or service and Add a customer.
Other Company Settings jobs (accounts, templates, carriers, vehicles, billing preferences, late fees, service categories, quote/contract defaults, logs) start at Review the chart of accounts.
If something looks wrong¶
- The red Configuration Tasks banner stays up. In some countries the product also wants at least one product, one billing Point of Sales, and one Sales Tax Rule. Finish those from the same checklist; they are not this article.
- PDFs show a different name than you expect. Change Company Name under Printing, not the address list. Company Legal Name was set at Sign Up.
- You cannot turn off the first / default address. You can still edit it with the pencil.
- The logo does not appear. Confirm you uploaded a file on Branding → Logo and clicked Update.
